Opening trial proceedings, which includes jury selection, began in Atlanta, Georgia today for accused murderer Brian Nichols. Nichols, 36, is accused of a murderous rampage on March 11, 2005 which left 3 people dead in an Atlanta courtroom; a judge, a court reporter and a sheriff's deputy. A fourth victim, a federal agent, was killed by Nichols later that day. Nichols was also charged for the kidnapping of a hostage, who was released when Nichols surrendered to authorities the day after the killings. Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for the 54 counts Nichols has been charged with. The event occurred as he was being led into the courtroom at the time to face a second trial on r-a-p-e charges and overpowered a female Sheriff's deputy and was able to obtain her weapon.
Brian Nichols has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity...here we go again! Here's all the details: http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/10/courthouse.shootings/index.html More info here: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/...olshearing_0311.html Here's an interview with Ashley Smith, the woman Nichols took hostage. After reading this, I remember the event more clearly...what a brave woman! http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/03/14/national/main679837.shtml I'll post info as to live online coverage (if there is any) when it becomes available. CNN may carry it, but it might be good to have a few local links just in case...you know how spotty things can get with CNN Have a great one! This message has been edited. Presiding Judge James Bodiford has now ordered that this trial be moved to a location within Fulton County, Georgia that will better meet security and transportation requirements for all parties.
The judge instructed that this take place within the next ten days. I guess we'll have to wait and see if there will be live trial coverage when they get relocated to a different facility?? http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=118385&catid=40 |

Good morning
Jury selection continues to move at a snail's pace in the murder trial of Brian Nichols. After a listless looking Nichols was determined to be sick after being examined by a Dr. called to the courtroom this morning, presiding Judge Bodiford ordered that jury selection be halted for the day. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/.../15/nichols_ill.html This is going to be one long trial! Lulu, you'll not only be a Mother-In-Law by the time this finally gets settled, but probably a Grandmother, too |

Jury selection continues to limp along in the Nichols case as the eighth day came to a close Saturday with only 24 jurors deemed to be qualified for the 100 member jury pool.
If the future selection of prospective jurors continue at this pace, it is expected that it will take as long as the end of August for the jury pool to be complete. Here's the latest info: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/...19/nichols_0720.html |

And the squeaky wheels of justice keep turning (barely) in the Brian Nichols case:
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/...hols_trial_0726.html This trial won't likely have jurors seated with testimony commencing until September of this year...by then we'll probably be up to our ears with Phil and OJ. Seems like it's feast or famine, doesn't it? In the meantime, have a great one, everybody |

Hi Ziggy, I guess I was registered from last year with Spector's trial and did not realize until I wanted to reply to you. I have been watching and reading the Simpson trial through KTLA and checking out the blog comments as needed. I caught your post today because I live in Apple Valley and kind of tripped out when I read your comment. Enjoy your vacation and wedding. Where in Apple Valley is the wedding and I too am very upset that Marta and Loni will not cover Spector Trail. I find CNN can and does do a horrible job at times. Take Care

Brian Nichols, convicted killer, was sentenced by the judge to life in prison as the jury was unable to decide his fate. They deadlocked on the sentencing faze. They could have given him Death or life and because the judge had to sentence he could only hand down life.

Hi LuLu!
I was very happy with the judge residing this case! The Jury was 3/4's to want death,,,,but the Judge in return gave MAXIMUM on ALL Counts,,,,,,,,,,which means Nichols will never see the earth's daylight again!,,,,,,,(4 other people will never see the earth's daylight ever again TOO! Don't seem to me as a fair trade-off,,,,,,,,,,,,,however,,,,,at least Nichols won't get a chance to ever get a chance to ever be set free,,,,,,,,,,,,,,EVER!!!!!!!!!! Ziggy~ |
