O.J. Simpson Co-Defendant Takes Plea
By KEN RITTER Associated Press Writer October 15, 2007 - 10:54 a.m. PDT LAS VEGAS — A co-defendant in the O.J. Simpson armed robbery case told a judge Monday he would plead guilty to a felony and testify against Simpson and four others in the alleged hotel room theft of sports collectibles from two memorabilia dealers. The plea agreement with Charles Cashmore, 40, of Las Vegas, ups the ante in the prosecution of Simpson. Cashmore can testify that guns were involved in the Sept. 13 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas casino hotel room, his lawyer said. This file photo provided Sept. 19, 2007, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, shows Charles Howard Cashmore. Cashmore, a co-defendant in the O.J. Simpson armed robbery case, told a judge Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, he would plead guilty to a felony and testify against Simpson and four others in the hotel room theft of sports collectibles from two memorabilia dealers. (AP Photo/ Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, FILE) "He can establish who was in the room, what was said, who had guns, who didn't have guns, potentially who may have seen guns, who didn't see guns," Cashmore's lawyer Edward Miley said outside court. "I think he wishes he would have never met O.J." Simpson and his lawyers have denied guns were in the room. His lawyers did not respond Monday to requests for comment. Cashmore waived his preliminary hearing. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure Jr., set arraignment for Oct. 23. He and the prosecution did not agree on a possible sentence before Monday's hearing, Miley said. He faces up to five years in prison. "In District Court, he'll be pleading guilty to accessory to robbery," Clark County District Attorney David Roger told Bonaventure. "He's agreed to provide truthful testimony." Outside court, Cashmore said he thought he'd done the right thing, but declined additional comment. Cashmore was initially arraigned on nine felonies and a gross misdemeanor, charges that included kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. A kidnapping conviction alone could have resulted in a sentence of life in prison with parole. Simpson and the others, Walter Alexander, Clarence "C.J." Stewart, Michael McClinton, and Charles Ehrlich, are due in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 8 and 9. Bonaventure will decide then whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial in state court. |

Third Co-Defendant in Simpson Case Accepts Plea Deal
Oct 29, 2007 03:43 PM PDT Forty-nine-year-old Michael McClinton is the third co-defendant to agree to testify against Simpson and two other men in the September hotel room holdup. McClinton appeared Monday morning before a Las Vegas judge to waive his preliminary hearing. He agreed to plead guilty to robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. He could receive probation or up to 11 years in prison. McClinton wielded a gun and acted like a police officer Sept. 13 when Simpson and five other men confronted collectibles dealers Bruce Fromong and Alfred Beardsley at a casino hotel, according to police reports. Walter Alexander, a Simpson golfing buddy from Mesa, Ariz., who also took a plea deal and agreed to testify in the case, told police that McClinton gave a gun to him, but he never took it out of his waist-band. McClinton's testimony for the prosecution would be another step to Simpson's con-tention that no guns were involved. In brief comments outside the courtroom, McClinton's lawyer, William Terry, confirmed that McClinton can testify Simpson asked him to bring two guns when they went to the hotel room at the Palace Station casino. "There's no reason to dispute that," Terry said. Terry said McClinton's testimony at a scheduled Nov. 8 preliminary hearing will come before his Nov. 13 plea. The lawyer said further details of McClinton's role would come out "during the course of the preliminary hearing or ... after he enters his plea." The aging football star and his remaining co-defendants are due for a preliminary hearing 8:30AM (PST) Nov. 8th and 9th on kidnapping, armed robbery and other felony charges.
